Title: 400D Oil Pump Leak
Post by: Andy Went on November 19, 2020, 02:07:24 PM
Hi

I have a leaking oil pump on my 400D which appears to be coming from the plunger itself so I'm assuming that it's an internal seal that needs replacing so have purchased a refurb kit from Yambits.

I was just wondering, in order to remove the pump from the crankcase cover, do I need to take the cover off and undo the nut on the pinion shaft or does it come off by just undoing the two screws that hold it on the outside of the cover?

Haynes manual says that I have to take the cover off - but you never know do you?! :-\

Just the two screws, the cable and the three oil pipes.

Hi again

I've just tried to remove the oil pump by undoing the the two front mounting screws as advised and the pump won't budge.  Crankcase cover has not been removed.

I've given it a few gentle taps with a soft hammer and wiggled it about a bit but it still won't budge.

As I've said, the Haynes manual says you've got to take the crankcase cover off and undo the nut and spring washer holding the plastic pinion on the drive shaft, then remove the dowel pin through the shaft before you can lift the pump away.

So is this correct? Has anyone else removed the pump from the front without removing the crankase cover?

I don't want to force it anymore so thought I'd better stop and check again   :'(

On some occasions the wormshaft bush may be stuck in the pump. If this is whats happened here, then you need to take off the r/h cover and proceed as in the Haynes manual.
