2018 MotoGP test 2 Thailand
« on: February 16, 2018, 01:58:13 PM »
Today was the first day of the second pre season test for MotoGP

And it was at a brand new circuit for MotoGP, the Chang International Circuit, Buriram, Thailand.

MotoGP have never been here before, but WSB have.

Here is a view of the pitane

First things first, today is Valantino Rossi's birthday, and he is 39 !!  :o :o :o

Obviously early days yet, but Honda seemed to settle best, with Brit Cal Crutchlow fastest

With Alex Rins second fastest on the Suzuki

and Marquez third quickest

Final time sheet ....

Fastest 'Rookie' was again Naka san

And this man made history today, the first Malaysian to ride a MotoGP bike, Syahrin

Simeon had the first 'bigish' crash

Jackass, went well, finishing in 7th

Dovi was quickest Ducati in 4th, they were testing a new 'big' nose

Rabat and Bautista were 13th and 14th, just 0.7 of a second off Cal, so quite close.

At every new circuit there is some exploring to do, seeking out food was interesting ......

How do you like your bugs, sir ??   ::)

Thanks Steve keep them coming mate  8)

Dave.
Bikers check the weather in the morning to see if they're gonna ride. Motorcyclist only check the weather to see what were gonna wear.

He goes Day 2 guys.

Yesterday was Rossi's 39th birthday ...

Today was Marc Marquez's 25th birthday  8)

What can be said about Marc ? ......

And today Marc was fastest and the first (and only) rider under the 1:30:00 lap

The final times were ....

Honda also continued with aero experimentation

Cal was 8th today

Just headed by yesterdays star, Rins in 7th

Rins then went on to blot his copybook by binning his bike

Making the day a Honda 1-2, Pedrosa was solid in 2nd

For much of the day Zarco was quickest Yamaha, however he is running the 2016 chassis with the 2017 engine and 2018 aero  ::)

And for the second day Naka san was quickest rookie

The 'lesser' teams also did a lot of runnng ...

Abraham on the 'Aspar'

Redding on the Aprilia

Kalio on the KTM

and Luthi on the Marc VDS

The grandstands were heaving, for only a test day, i guess this first race in October is going to be busy !!

Final day tomorrow

 ;)

Great Pictures Steve
Who's your money on this year?

I think Pedrosa looks full of confidence again. Maybe an outside chance!
No garage is large enough!

Hi Paul,

Difficult to see past Marquez for MotoGP, i think Olivera in Moto2 and Martin in Moto3

Pedrosa or Dovi as outsiders in MotoGP (what ? no Yamaha riders !! )
Bagnia & Alex Marquez in Moto2
Canet & Rodrigo in Moto3

3rd and final dayof the 2nd pre season test

The combined 3 days times looked like this ....

For most of the day Zarco was top of the pile

but he was pipped by Pedrosa near the end of the day

3rd was yesterdays leader Marquez, who has 'an off' that he just couldnt save !!

Techy spots today included a carbon swingarm on the honda's

New aero nose for KTM

And the works Ducati's were using frames with different rigidity

Dovi's

Lorenzo's

Halfway through the day there was an unusual 'Red Flag' ................... SNAKES !!

Jack was again quickest Pramac

Petruci needs to keep an eye on Jack

The KTM's are now consistantly closer to the front

This guy needs to pull his finger out !!

But this guy was consitantly the quickest rookie all test, and finished a very creditable 10th overall

Emabaresment of the test went to the Ducati satalite teams (Aspar and Pramac), who didnt bring enough fuel so ended up finishing very early today.

Well thats all from Buriram, MotoGP have one final test at Qatar the week before the first race (Qatar), so everyone is packing up before heading off

I will be off again in two weeks, to the final pre season test for Moto2 and Moto3, at Jerez

Interesting observation on the Ducati frames Steve. Obviously Jorge's isn't as good! Poor old bugger, he's struggling... Which is a shame. He's a better rider than that.

The poor old snake is looking a bit second hand as well. Someone must have run him over?
