Angel Nieto
« on: August 03, 2017, 07:54:50 PM »
Its all a little subdued here in the Brno paddock this evening.

An hour or so ago it was formally announced that Angel has died.

Angel, 70, had a quad bike accident a week ago and suffered a head injury, today he passed as a result of those injurys.

Far too many sports people are labled 'legends' today but Angel was a true legend of grand prix racing ....

13 World Championships  (12 + 1, as he always said)
90 Grand Prix wins  (3rd highest of all time)

A journalist once said that after the 50's, 80's and 125's the Spaniards all go home, .... they had seen their hero.

On a personal level Angel was a kind, genuine and helpful man. His son Pablo (himself no mean 125 racer) is the team manager of the VR46 Moto2 and Moto3 teams.

RIP Angel, you will be missed by all that knew you

People are more violently opposed to fur than leather because it's safer to harass rich women than motorcycle gangs.

A terrible loss, he was one of the first GP riders that I became aware of back in the mid-70's. He was untouchable on his Derbi, Bultaco and latterly Minarelli. In fact I think he rode most of the 'tiddler' marques at some point. Very sad news.  :'(
Seemed like a good idea at the time..........
