Introduce myself and say hi.
« on: May 03, 2021, 08:47:54 AM »
Hello good people.

My name is Dave and I live in Bedfordshire.

I've been biking for (yeek) 41 years now since I was 17  ;D

I will let you do the maths.

Anyway having always had a bike in those 41 years, I have had mostly Yamahas or Hondas.

I have owned various different Yamahas but the 2 stroke Yamahas I have owned are

DT50MX

RS100 (passed my test on this, the old style where the examiner walked around different spots with a clipboard, and you tried not to run him over, when he stepped out in front of you when you had to do the emergency stop : ).

DT175MX

RD 350 LC2 (ypvs)

Of course back in the day had I had the foresight to keep even just one of them !

Anyway bringing it up to date I (along it would seem with most other bikers roughly my age) am wanting to become the proud owner of a Yamaha 2 stroke again.

Preferably an air cooled coffin tank shape RD. I at this point would be happy with anything from the RD125DX to the RD400F or anything in between to be honest.

It doesn't have to be a coffin tank model and would happily consider one of the older models 1970s onwards say.

I wouldn't be against a liquid cooled model or even (dare I say this here) a different make !

Anyway that's where I am at and hoping the MCN festival in september does indeed go ahead and hopefully meet some of you there.

Bye for now, Dave.

PS would it be ok/make sense to put this in the wanted section ?

Welcome to the dark side Dave, hope you find the sort of bike you are looking for but be warned, prices can be salty for good examples.

Thankyou, yes re prices so I am gathering  :o

I have seen a bitsa which is apparently a CS5 frame and running gear with a late ish RD200 engine. Though, I have my suspicions that it actually has CS3 forks,

front wheel and ? mudguard when comparing exploded parts diagrams of CS3 and CS5 parts.

The buyer wants just north of £2000.

Whilst I am not totally against the idea this seems a bit much for something that is at the end of the day a bitsa. Also I guess this is always going to effect its

value in the future.

Welcome to the Forum. Good luck with your hunt for a nice RD, I'm sure something will turn up, but none of them seem cheap any more
