Dykes piston rings.
« on: June 23, 2022, 10:20:39 PM »

Anyone know where i might find one set of 350 dykes rings for a yr5, 0.5mm oversize?
Scoured ebay -- plenty of pistons but no rings - that i could see.

                                              thanks,

Had a look at cmsnl site, but the rings number is 278-11610-21,   which i think are plain type, not dykes. i have a Yamaha parts book for usa r5, and this gives part number as 278-601-20----- again these appear to be plain type as image shows expander rings with them
Im lost--- cant find a ref number for Dykes rings?

The part number for the 0.5mm oversize Dykes type rings is 360-11610-22-00
I have a spare set of standard size, but not oversize unfortunately

The 360 rings fitted to 73-75 RD are all Dykes and the correct rings for yours. Under R5 and RD350's

The bottom ring is a plain ring and does have an expander and is pretty much the same ring on all 350/400 R and RD's including the LC . None have an expander under the top ring be it  keystone or a dykes  ring and the euro 2R8/ 2R9 78/79 E models has the same keystone ring top and bottom without any expanders. A short lived pointless idea that Yamaha quickly dropped on the later true 2V0 F model and LC's

The reason for part number changes on the dykes is for one the piston clearance was reduced on RD's which resulted in a slightly tweaked ring to correct the ring gap and new part number. However it was practice to rebore the R5 to the no ew RD 1.5 thou clearance hence the 360 dykes ring replaced the 280 version.

You will have to look to the usa or germany, very hard to find now but they are out there, I managed to collect the full set of oversized pistons and rings a while ago, difficult, especially with the piston revisions, weights slightly different.

Like I already said csmnl have 0.5mm dykes rings and have done for years! They also come up on ebay regularly, I have bought and have numerous sets of 250/350 dykes rings and pistons. Often go for next to nowt too. They also have all of the pistons
