First post having "lurked"for some time off an on.
I lived in the Isle of Man in my youth and there was no moped law or capacity limit for learners!
I had an RD350 age 17 and first Sunday out on it I had 108MPH down the Creg, my first time over the ton!
Age 19 I started racing on Jurby airfield and Jurby road circiut on a honda 400-4 with race seat, full fairing etc and after a few meets bought 1979      Newcomers MGP winner Roger Luckmans RD400.I did a couple of seasons on this and in late 1980 moved to the UK and bought a brand new 350LC.
By 1989 i wanted to race again but my wife Julie wasnt keen and said why cant you do something safer like restore one so i bought a 350 S2 Kawasaki. This lead to a lot of bikes and adventures including many trips to the USA.( Ive been to the Mid Ohio swap meet 11 times)
Im now Vice-president of the triples club and magazine editor and produce a 60 page mag every issue 4 times a year. Been doing the mag since 2004
The Yamaha bug was still itching (I still had a TZ350E) and I bought a mint Yamaha Daytona with 1222 miles on it.
Im afraid it was an RD350 1973 I really wanted so when a pal who imports was selling one I took the plunge and bought it!
I was a little bit disappointed with it when he delivered it (the photos flatter it!) and decided to pull it apart and not restore it , just replate the  nuts/bots etc, respray a few black parts and give it a cheap makeover.
Ive been doing a blog on it on the triples forum and might even write it up for your magazine.
I had an exchange of emails last June with Del,after joining the club, and on my last mail said i could do an article and could he tell me what size  print he uses as i can hopefully do it as a finished article so less work for him but he never got back to me.  Im sure i read he has had computer issues?
Another 1973 RD350 low mileage beautiful condition, came up for sale in the USA, the seller being my good friend Kawaski triples club president  Rick Brett and it was his on personal bike from his collection so you know how nice it will be.
I did a deal with Rick over the phone last October inc shipping and he removed it from USA ebay.
It finally arrived two weeks ago.
Ive been retired for 3 years and own 39 bikes in total and spend most days in the garage now!
 Heres a few pics.

The first RD350 age 17.Its the ONLY picture i have of it!

Jurby airfield 1978 on the RD400

The 1222 mile Daytona. Brakes were seizing and carb pilots blocked but its ready for the road now.

The first RD350 now being cosmetically updated!

The RD350 from Rick Brett, 4600 miles and it really is a lovely untouched example. Just got to UK register it then I will get it on the road.

The Other RD350 and this is how far I have got updating it.
Ive just painted and lacquered the engine casings.
The work to repaint and polish the fins to the cylinders and heads was so time consuming.
Ive done all the work myself. I was a building contractor before retirement apart from a very unusual job 1979 to 1983!

Mu unusual job and i served on over 20 and possibly a unique place to see a Yamaha jacket!
Sat at the front door in 1982, 11 miles out to sea on the Bell rock lighthouse where i was one of the 3 keepers .I did 6 weeks on it!

Hi Alan, I got on here eventually!
I sold Alan the speedo he advertised for and he helped me with my tidy up resto by supply me with some PDFs as to the cable routing on the RD350 as I was struggling where they went as its so tight around the coils etc

Ive had about 4 mags in total I think but received about 15 back issues off a friend and read and enjoyed them all.
Ive just got the latest issue but Im keeping it for next week as Im flying to the Isle of Man on Monday to spend a few days with my 88 year old mum.

Hi Malc and welcome. Glad to hear you've seen the mags and enjoyed them, I'm looking forward to your contribution and also I think you may have some knowledge to share. Have a good time with your mum, you only have one.

Thanks again, My knowledge of RD350s is probably limited unlike my knowledge of Kawasaki H2s which will be of little use on here LOL.
I did strip the first RD350 down to the frame before cleaning it, painting it myself as required and the result so far I would say is good.
The other RD350 i have just purchased, other than clean it I will leave alone.
Its probably a lie I will clean it as Im the worlds worst bike cleaner!
Im looking forward to getting the RD350 and the RD400 Daytona on the road and using them.
For the next few days I will be using my mums 1996 Ford escort Ghia which she bought brand new, and taking her out around the Island.

Do you ever make it over to the Deal's Gap run? I may try to go at least one day this year as it is only ~75 miles from my house.

It was our original plan to do Deals Gap in 2009 but Rick Brett said we would enjoy Mid Ohio more. We went to mid Ohio 2009 and then did it every year till 2019 inc visiting many dealers and salvage yards too. We had some GREAT experiences.
In 2019 We also added to the trip world Superbikes at Laguna Seca via Vegas and San Francisco.
I wrote all about the different trips in the Kawasaki triples club magazine.

Thanks, I really like your diversity of bikes.
Real good selection there😄
I have already got 3 Hondas but do fancy another 400-4!
Good to see my mum and she is still
managing on her own OK.
Unusual for me to be on the island without a bike!

Yeah the 400/4 is one of the few Hondas I would choose to own in truth (the others being a NS400R or MC28 NSR250), although I do keep looking at CX500’s with a mix of revulsion and fascination, which is all very confusing.  :D
