Cold starting

X wont start on the kicker from cold ? bumps ok after a bit of a leg it  :o and starts on the kicker no problem when warm.

I threw some b8hs at it tother day but has not helped the situation. when it does start up from cold,its excessive smokey,compared to my 400f which always starts 1st 2nd kick.

Any ideas chaps ?

Iridium plugs? Bit dear-ish though @ £10 each...
I think it has the Zeeltronic iggy, so not the easiest thing to check

Is the oil running back from the pump  i wonder , seems very strange my 400 started first kick after several month layup recently, is choke ok not loose or owt, any air leaks on inlet side of things

Last time I took X out on the New Forest run she was a bit reluctant to start cold, once fired up no problem after that and how good do those pipes sound 8) 8) 8) 8), love X :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

When mine gets like that its usually the plugs getting a bit old.

Putting a new pair in transfors the starting

I usually go 3 years a pair (5 to 6000 miles'ish) - How old are the set in there now

There a year old Del, they were put in on the engine rebuild last year.
I think Hazy has already put a new set of B8s in and its still difficult to start from cold.

Did fire up on a shorter bump yesterday evening from cold,left parked up for an hour or so and fired first kick.

Have you put any fresh fuel in yet Paul
That's been in there since good Friday, I would not of thought it was stale yet but worth a try.

Howz the battery then.

Similar symptons to mine when battery was on its way out. Have you tried putting the battery on charge overnight then disconnect and try to start from cold.

Check the hose between the carbs for the fuel enrichener is intact.

New fully charged battery and its got electronic ignition so even if the battery was flat it would be OK.

I did charge the battery over night,when it arrived  here.

Carb choke link pipe good.

Fresh fuel tother night.

I will use it sunday for the car/bike show in exeter,so see how that goes.

Its also got a oil leak from gear lever shaft,i dont have a spare seal here,so will keep the gearbox topped up.

Yea choke operated while warm and running,defiantly richens up.

Going by plug colour its running slightly rich

If the bike has a zeeltronic system fitted you must use Resistor plugs. ie BR8ES OR BR9ES.
