the V-Force reeds are not a close fit. It is needs more than a little grinding. And they are expensive. Friends in germany have done a back to back dyno test with standard versus V-Force on a YPVS. Nearly no difference at all. In my opinion not worth the money.

the best setup is simply not to say. It depends on a lot of factors an engine will be build. First you have to know for what purposes you need it. Street, trackday, race? Should it be a reliable engine or a race engine which is build to the limits? Which cylinders you use? Ported? Which carbs? Which exhausts?.
You see, there is no: What will be best?
All someone can say is what worked for himself.
For example: the fastest aircooled race RD in Germany is not the bike with the the highend parts on it or the biggest money pit. It is a bike which is clever engineered and built and top of that has a fantastic rider. All these components together made it fast.

I have a reed cage with the central bit removed, it had one piece fiber reeds in like Chris (T Reg) posted a pic of but they were a little bent.

anyway i mulled over V force as Uwe stated theres a fair bit of grinding out to be done and with barrels being hard to find and expensive I shelved that idea....I really wanted new reeds for this cage I have, eventually I found this and they are 'bang on'

My bike is a DT175 but I reckon the reeds are just the same as RD's, the seller lists the dimensions of the reeds anyhow. I bought some and they fit well, though I have yet to fit them to the bike

Best suited Vforce for the aircooled RDs is the yz85 upgrade since is a few mm narrower than the banshee/rz,makes a big improvement on low and mid range.
I have v force on a RZ and it was best investment as bolt on power,

I have fitted YPVS reed cages with carbon reeds of unknown make on my 350. It took a lot of grinding out of the inlet ports and you have to be careful not to break through the casting. Apparently they are the same reed area as TZ 750 reed blocks which are physically much bigger on the mounting flange. They work very well with the 34mm carbs I have now fitted.

Parts are getting expensive/rare and I'm not game to do anything irreversible to my barrels (off the track, anyway) to fit big cages in.

After nearly 20K views but no entries for years, has anyone come up a good cage/reed combo for an RD350 with 34mm round-slides/no filters/low-end biased chambers?  I'm leaning towards removing the bridges from the stock cages and single petal Boyesens.  There are so many conflicting opinions, new websites and more recent products, I think I can see my own back, up ahead

Mark, if your barrels have any mod at all, then a small bit of material removal to fit YPVS blocks surely isn’t a big deal. But if the barrels are still 100% standard then really no point to be using 34mm carbs…
A bit of Reed cage modification on the standard ones will assist performance but everything works back from porting and pipes … fix that first then determine what’s needed to support upstream breathing…

Hi Mark,
Well, as Betty says the reeds are not a problem until the rest of the engine performance is raised, ie Pipes, porting, intake etc.  The same standard reeds work well with an RD350LC at 45+bhp.  However, reed improvements are possible and some tuners even give their advice!  Read my RD350 Track bike topic on "RD350 Track Bike build" on the restorations pages.  I cover the Reeds (and most things!) in some detail.   My present spec is YZ125 petals in flowed cages and they are really nice at my 50bhp level.  This year I am going up to single petal YZ85 petals.  Next year, the full YZ85 Cages and petals.  The great thing is, you can go as far as the YZ85 petals in flowed cages with no cylinder mods and, even the full YZ85 Cages only need a small amount of relief to fit the cylinders.   The subject of "racing" reeds and expensive replacements is interesting.  It is hard to find accurate info.  However, your whole engine has to suit the reed set-up.  I think I make it clear what is what on my "RD350 Track Bike build " so, try reading that and give me a comment!
