Project x insurance is something I have looked into a few times in the last 18 months but every time I spent a few hours on the phone trying to sort it I hit a brick wall.
No insurance company would do a club policy for all members to ride project X.
We decided to leave it for now and insure the bike on my policy for the first season and let a few members use it on there own policy, not a brilliant idea as it means the bike is on only third party cover.
Well now the summer season is coming to an end I thought we would have another go at finding a club policy.
So at the Stafford show I had a meeting with Peter James Insurance Services and after going through all the details/Terms and condition they gave us a very competitive price.
This was sent to all the club committee members and all agreed the deal was good and as from the 18th October Project X was insured on our own policy.
There are a few conditions.
Insurance is fully comprehensive with a £100 Excess payable by the club member that has possession of the bike at the time.
The club member must of held a Full motorcycle licence for at least 2 years
No pillion passenger.
The club member must be over the age of thirty
There is a garage clause: Between the hours of 10pm and 6am if Project X is not locked in your garage at your home address we will not be covered for theft or malicious damage.
Project X will not be covered for theft or damage if:
It has been left unlocked.
It has been left with the keys in.
Reasonable precautions have not been taken to protect the Project X.
If a member has endorsements on there license we must inform the insurance company (It should not be a problem but we must let them know)
Each time the bike is taken the members address needs to be sent to the insurance company.
Terms and conditions of having Project X
You must have a locked garage or building to lock Project X inside at all times.
Riders must have a full UK driving licence for at least 2 years
Club members must be over the age of THIRTY
The club must hold on file a copy of each riders driving licence.
The insurance company must be informed of any change in circumstances.
Each rider will be liable for all parking, Speeding, traffic fines and toll charges while it is in there possession etc.
The rider/keeper of Project X is liable for the £100 insurance excess.
The bike must be returned in the condition it was received and with the same amount of fuel as it was received.
Every mile ridden must be accounted for in the Project X mileage record log and in the mileage record log on the club forum. (Non forum members should ask a forum moderator to update this for them)
Damage to Project x should be reported immediately.
No other rider should ride project X other than the rider listed at the time.
Project X should only be used for bike shows, rallies and bike nights and not used for personal use of business.
I will update the insurance company with details supplied from each rider.

Each rider will have a copy of the Insurance certificate, MOT and the details of the breakdown cover when they take Project X.

The Yamaha Aircooled RD club will not be held responsible for any damage or injury causes whatsoever, whether it is caused by rider error, malfunction of parts or lack of maintenance, each rider should thoroughly check Project X before each ride.
Copies of all personal details will be held by a committee member in a locked safe and shredded when they are no longer required.
