RD250 from NL
« on: May 06, 2023, 02:45:28 PM »
Hello all,

Signed up to log the progress on my RD250 which I recently picked up. Plan is to first get it licensed so I get a dutch numberplate (therefore I have to make it technically OK). After that I'm planning on a complete overhaul.

It's a number's matching 352 model but Im not completely convinced that this is the original paint schedule..

Will make a more detailed post later as I have not worked on the bike after I picked it up. Also, I will probably have many questions for which I hope to find the answers in this forum.

Welcome.  ;)

As you suspect, the painted parts are from the previous model - DS7 or R5. Looks like the whole of the front end might be from a DS7/R5 as well.

Great,
A survivor.  The front end is deffo DS7 or R5 (with modern ears) , although there was the early US RD250 with similar drum front.  I wonder if this is either, a US serviceman's personal export US drum front RD250-modified since, or a Dutch/W.German RD250 changed with DS7/R5 front and tinware, or a Dutch/W.German DS7/R5 with engine swop?
Any chance of a good pic showing the frame stamp, don't have to show all number, just the x352-and first 3 numbers after that.

Cheers

Interesting to hear these insights. Thanks for that. I am really interested in more information on the model.

So the frame nr and engine nr are the same.

Vin starts with : 352-501

OK.  Was hoping for a couple of good pics, one of frame stamp and one of engine.  We can comment on any "changes" and if it is original.
Cheers

Dont have pictures on the hand but I know from experience with other bikes that the numbers are original. Frame and engine are matching and original. I added a picture of the vin.llate which was on my phone.

I have another question. I have this 350 set as well. Does someone know if these are original rd350 barrels?

Hi,

Looking at more pics and info, your bike definitely looks to have RD250 frame and engine, although, possibly 350 cylinders and heads? Front wheel/forks look to be DS7, with shiny dust covers and DS7 type muddy.  Clocks look to be early RD.  Fuel tank and side panels DS7.
Overall, with the original Dutch data plate, it is a Dutch market model 352 RD250, but with those changed DS7 and possibly R5 parts.
Those pictured barrels and heads are early RD350.

Cheers

Hi 5port

Thank you very much for the insights!

Is there any way to check if these are 350 cylinders without having to remove the heads?

Many thanks

Look at the outside bottom edge of the cylinder, below the bottom fin, it should have 247 or 347 cast on the side there.

I will check it

On the 350 barrels that I have I cannot find any numbers on it. Are these aftermarket?

Probably ground off to hide detail of cc for tax/licencing.
