Post removed?
« on: June 09, 2021, 05:07:12 PM »
Sorry, not sure where to post this...it looks like I had a post removed yesterday, was asking about rear rack fitment on my RD200 under "Aircooled RD Tech Help 200cc and Below". Is that sort of thing not allowed here or something? Not trying to step on toes around here, just trying to understand why it was removed.

I wasn't looking to advertise anything...merely looking for advice on whether or not anyone has had success with any aftermarket racks on an RD200 and/or whether or not a rack for an RD350 would fit on it. I guess it had a link to an ebay page for the RD350 rack I was looking at, but not by any means trying to peddle it, just wondering if someone thought it could work.

Anything can be "made" to fit, but I would suggest that a lot of work would be needed to fit a 250/350 rack to a 125/200.

There is a 200 one in the US on fleabay at the moment.

Oh dang, nice. That must have just popped up on there. Thanks! Snagged it.

K, so the RD125/200 are kinda same/similar chassis vs the 250/350 then? Sorry, a bit new to the RD game so not super familiar with all this stuff yet.

They are different beasts really. However, as most racks are tubular or flat metal, they can be modified by either cutting or extending, depending on whether you're fitting a rack to a bike smaller than it was designed for, or vice versa. I am on the US based Yamaha Enduros forum and some folks there have extended the DT125/175 racks to fit the larger bikes.

My own rack from back in the day (which I still have) used the top of the rear shockers and then had crank brackets from the rear flasher frame bolt holes back to the rack. The flashers were moved on to the rack which extended them out. The rack had a built in sissy bar for those who don't like to cuddle  :D. Result of using the shock mounts was the lifting (grab) handle were lost as the rack replaced it. Explains why the handles are rare  :(.
The important factor is to check that the distance between the shock mounts of the rack matches your frame assuming the rack is mounted this way.

Not necessarily. Its possible he was asking about other peoples experiences with fitting.

That hardly equates to "anyone want to sell me one?" but I guess I'm not really planning to sit an argue it, I can see how it could be taken the way you took it.

I guess all I'm saying is it would have just been nice if I got a DM or something telling me my post was removed and why rather than it just disappearing, but I guess it's been answered now, so moving on with life.  ;)

Ah but was there a question mark on the end? ;) Or was it just a statement and therefore not infringing the rules :):)

Can of worms, but Gazzatt is one of the good guys, he is just protecting the forum.

Good grief, can't believe I just read that, does the club want to attract new members or not?
