RD200 & CS5E rebuild

CS5E

Here is the magnificent CS5E bought for a handful of euros

For the CS5E the ad was put on LBC on May 19, 2021 and remained there until July 8, 2021 when I bought it. Ad entitled "moto yamaha RD 200"" in Grasse, Saint-Jacques district if you know. I can deduce that at that time you were very busy.

I left with my carefully prepared tool box to tear it to pieces on the edge of the pavement to fit it into my Q5 with a large thick tarp so as not to rot it.

It was missing its carburetors and its air box, which must have put off several buyers.

It turns out that I had the 2 carburettors, the complete air box and the connecting sleeves, as well as other things like new fork tubes, waiting for several years.

I was the rare profile of the ideal buyer.

I had never seen a real CS5 in my life. It does not run the streets. I had 2 opportunities to buy one, one from Claude P. in the Yvelines in the first decade of 2000 then another in Arriège in the second decade of 2000, a machine which was bought by a forum member Patrick T. At each times it was the motivation that had failed.

RD 200

I will also exhibit my RD 200 bought in the west in 2008, it is very beautiful but deserved a general engine and cosmetic repair:

RD 200

It's a third hand.

The RD 200 began its life in Alsace, its front GB bears a "MOTO SOHN" plate from Strasbourg. It has known the salty roads and even if it is not too visible its base lacks freshness and so the frame had to be repainted at this level.

The engine, at 10,000 km, lacked fishing and I had it redone.

The tank had small bugnes due to the small handlebars of the time. Recurring problem.

I actually took 15 years to find a new tank. Something done in 2022, at a golden price. The tank is from Australia, Wagga-Wagga in New South Gale.

RD 200

Here is the rebuilt engine:

I don't do the work myself. I research, I buy all the original YAMAHA parts if possible and I supply them to my fitter mechanic who has full skills on 2-stroke engines. For the RD 200 I don't have any pictures of the disassembled engine. The engine of the RD 200 is one of the 4 on the photos, it is easily recognizable.

Hello Jean, the RD200 looks beautiful. What are your plans with the CS5E?

Hello Motty,

The CS5E will be restored to the highest standards, with rechroming of the parts that require it. It's already done for some parts and I'll show you the work.

The engine will be rebuilt and all the parts are already present.

The painting will be done new, either by NOS elements, or by applying new paint.

The zinc-plated parts have been re-galvanized.

Unexpectedly the front and rear fenders do not require rechroming.

See you soon.
