Paint stripper
« on: January 08, 2022, 03:30:16 PM »
Following the change in the formula for Nitromors, we all know the latest paint strippers are not very good.

There have been some threads about power strip and where you can get it. I bought a litre last February. This is the good old fashioned stripper with dichloromethane. Supplied for "professional use" only.

Now, the law has changed and the supplier is liable to prove who he sells it to, and requires an HSC certificate number or a copy of it before they dispatch.

The supplier I used was apologetic, said he could not supply, and that they are already being investigated by the HSC. Company called Maxolen.

So, unless you are a professional with the certification, its illegal to have it.....

I bought 2.5litres of no nonsense stripper from screwfix, and it does soften and wrinkle oil based gloss paint like dulux quite well. As for powder coat or other paints, I dont know.

So. Anyone know of anyone still supplying the good stuff?

Ive also run out of powerstrip and the ebay seller I used is now out of stock permanently - maxolenuk.
I did do a search at the time and found another ebay seller selling the same stuff but I cant find them now, annoying!

Quick search today and this one came up with Dichloromethane but they need you to send a contact details back to just them before they ship it.

this one hints that it contains Dichloromethane and doesnt seem to need any forms -

I ordered some from the second supplier yesterday as I too have run out of powerstrip; not heard anything back that would indicate that they won't ship it - will let you know how I get on.
