I have a 79 Daytona Special U.S. with a freshly built 1A1 motor and it seems fine until it gets warmed up and then it won't pull above 5k and it starts backfiring on the left side. At this stage the only thing moving the bike is the right piston. But initially under load it's fine.
Timing: 2.0 btdc
34mm Mikuni VM main jet 350 Pilot=50
Freshly cleaned carbs twice.
Checked for intake leaks.
Changed plug sides and the problem stayed on the left.
Running 30-1 klotz
Dyna S electronic ignition
Crossover tube.

Aircooled RD Tech Help 200cc and Below / RD125 Piston Rings
« Last post by AndyW on January 19, 2022, 07:31:16 PM »
Hi, once again looking for some help please
I'm looking at getting some pistons/rings.
I believe that if I purchase pistons 466-11631, I need 'flat' piston rings, not 'dykes'
But, there appears to be two different part numbers for flat rings??
307-11601 and 307-11610??
What, if any, are the differences between the two??
Or have I got it totally around my neck??
Thanks
Andy

Could you post a photo, just so we know which type we are talking about? UK, Europe and US all had different types and there are a lot of imported items around now.

Also, no guarantee that it is an original Yamaha headlight!  :o :D

Aircooled RD Tech Help 200cc and Below / Headlight bulb holder

This may sound a bit of a simple question but just want to avoid damaging anything.

I have a 1976 RD200 and wondered if anyone could advise how the headlight bulb holder comes out of the back of the reflector? Is the bulb holder a bayonet fit or just a push fit or something else. I have fiddled around with it a bit but  it is not for moving easily having presumably  been stuck in situ for many years!

Thanks for any advice.

Hi Alistair,
You certainly have succeeded in a really great "factory" bike!  It looks great.
I hope that it goes as well as you expect.  Keep us updated!  :)

Cheers

Morning Terry.

Those last two numbers will relate to colour so, in terms of size, they are interchangeable.

Also, AS3, RD125, CS3 and CS5 should also fit.

Question I’ve looked at parts manuals and the headlamp shells look the same for early rd200 and RD200DX apart from last 2 numbers on part number is different. Are they interchangeable as I’m finding it hard to get one :-\ :-\ :-\
