Lock down boredom
« on: January 21, 2021, 06:25:03 PM »
Here are a few pictures of my bikes out for an airings whilst I clean the garage out again
The RD250 is very original and was imported from America and is showing under 2900 miles and all I had to do was clean the carbs and tank , paint the oil tank as it was rusty through battery acid then clean off 40 years dust and now it runs a treat ,  the R5 350 is one which I have restored  , haven’t had chance to test it yet as it’s only just been finished can’t wait till lockdown is over and the roads are dry so I can give it a blast.

Lovely pair you have. Oo er mrs.

The 250 is lovely. Hopefully you will be able out in the spring to test them out.

Haven’t been able to compare the rides  as literally not been out on the 350 as it didn’t run when I got in
and only just finished, but I really enjoy the 250 as it’s a lively little bike . It will be fun to compare the two as the 250 has reed valve induction and the 350 isn’t  so will be interesting to compare the power
characteristics

The noise is different as well, I remember a mate of mine with a YDS7 laughing at a magazine review that described the 'baleful honk' from the intake at speed, I think the reed valve motors lost that.  His drum brake was way better than any disc brake at the time as well.

Yes I’ve noticed they sound different just revving them in the garden the 350 has definitely got a bit more induction sound and doesn’t seem  as sharp off the throttle as the 250. Really looking forward to get it out on the road and seeing how it performs

Both look great.
I particularly like that white and red American colour scheme on the RD. I always thought the UK RD colours were a bit boring.
Pete in the New Forest.
Current bikes GT750, RD350 & AP50.
Previous bikes YR5 (x2), KH250, GT185, DT250, AP50 & YDS7.
