Cleaned and ready
« on: June 15, 2016, 04:11:28 PM »
Weather not good today to work on my garden so decided to take a look at Project X.
I gave her a good wash, polish, oil and grease up and tackled a few of the little jobs it needed. RD James supplied a new battery strap and the barrel rubbers.
She looks nice again...

You fitted a new battery and lost the NOS strap you numpty.
Good old Dave James to the rescue.

Next job is a new clutch cable and if that don't sort the stiffy then its new springs.

Strange thing....
Project X would never start from cold if left for more than 7 days. We had to bump it every time.
The last three time I have tried it now its started 2nd kick. This problem has sorted itself and has been a problem for 3 years.

Saves me a job. I must say its running well now. It has always appeared to run a bit rich but that also appears to have sorted its self as well.

She is still a bit smoky but I like that and I have found all the 350s appear to smoke more than the 400s.

We have changed it Merv, we also changed the cable but it was a second-hand one so I thought I would try another to make sure before changing the springs. I will pop over to Dave James later and collect a couple of good second-hand cables, I like to keep a spare on the bike anyway.

Thats because they tweaked the oil pump settings on later bikes to comply with ever more stringent emission regulations. The old models (A and B) 250 and 350 were good oilers and Arrow gave me the option of altering the flow when he rebuilt my pump but I chose to leave it on the "standard"(smokescreen) setting

I popped in to see David James yesterday and we went through his old clutch cable collection and found a genuine Yamaha second hand one. Fitted it today an the clutch is sorted. No more stiffies.
The bike is pretty much sorted now.
Thanks Dave....
