RD125/200 horn repair

I picked up a fairly cheap, non working horn with some other parts from the US (mainly bought for the nice, original clamp style mirror for my 1975 RD125) and today thought I'd have a bash at fixing it.

Luckily the horn isn't riveted or pressed, just five screws. These undid really easily, but then I was stumped for a little while. The "trumpet" came off, but I was still left with what looked like a sealed unit. After a little gentle (?) prising, it turned out that it was just the paper gasket holding the two halves together.

The inside of the horn looked like new. However, I gave the faces of the points a few rubs with sandpaper and Bob's your aunty's husband, one working horn.

Interestingly, it worked even before I fitted the adjusting screw back in.

The spade terminal half of horn needs rotating 180 deg. Otherwise the horn wires foul into the crook of the frame. Unless the 125 different to 200.
Note - my 200A the original horn did not have spades but had leads soldered behind a small terminal box. Pain when I swapped to later horn with spades, as had to make up new leads.
Maybe I should follow your example and fix that old one.  :-\

The photo is how the horn came to me from the US and my UK RD125 horn is the same, with no fouling. However, I believe that 90 degree spade connectors are used.

Maybe I'll put my anorak on and find out which models used spade connectors and which were soldered (I know what type you're talking about there)!  :D

Although on some it determines if it works or not, I believe the adjusting screw is primarily to tune the frequency (or "tone") of the horn.

I bought one from the US for my GT550J that the seller said was working when he posted it. However, it didn't work here until I unscrewed the adjuster a little.

This RD200 one stopped working if I screwed the adjuster in too far.
