I'm coming to the end of
a month living without recourse to money, this Sunday. Partly as a bit of a challenge - bit like a pilgrimage, but also to raise some funds for Survival International - a charity who helps protect Tribal peoples around the world. I've always felt a bit bad for being part of the modern western world which continues to encroach and steal their sacred ancient lands; corporations and governments even resorting to murders for the sake of money and profit...
Anyway, it's been a bit of an adventure - I started with just the clothes I had on and had to find everything from that point. I wouldn't even allow myself to live at my own abode as it involves paying rent. So I ended up sleeping in a kind of barn at a community allotments project each night. I managed to find a sleeping bag the first day, thankfully - that was my first priority and it came like magic.
It has all worked out, foodwise it was fine (quite easy around Brighton actually, many thanks to "The Real Junk Food Project" and BUCFP)... One night my teeth felt a bit "furry" after not being cleaned for some days and I was knocking on doors for a toothbrush... People have been very open and giving, I must say. It's been quite a boost to trust in the Great Spirit/Divine which I have felt more during this venture as a kind of magic of life.
As well as some sponsors, I have pledged to Survival International all the money that normally comes my way in the month.
If anyone would like to support my cause with a small donation to Survival International, here:
