Aircooled RD Tech Help 250cc and Above / Seat lock barrel removal
« Last post by Mally on February 03, 2023, 01:37:02 PM »
Any idea how you get the barrel out of the seat lock , have got it stripped down but can’t work how it’s held in position. Tried it with key in and key out but totally confused how to remove the barrel .

I avoid getting petrol on the paint (e.g put a rag on top of the tank when I fill it up). I got the impression that is is hard to get lacquer covering enough so the gasoline not creeping under it anywhere.
Keep the seal areas of the fuel tap and cap clean from any paint is one way to avoid gasoline under the paint.

Hi,

years ago i had the hubs on my rd250c rebuilt with stainless spokes and alloy rims by a company in leytonstone (cannot for the life of me remember their name). i gave them just the hubs, when i went to fit them the tyre nearly touched the left side of the swing arm. i had to give them the wheel back set in the arm so as they could centralise it, it was quite a lot. also, yes, i did check and double check the spacers etc.

cheers
les.

That is not professional. I use this guys in germany:
https://menze-fahrzeugteile.de/

They would not rebuild a wheel with stainless spokes since those crack easily and would never do it if they did not know the offset (send the complete wheel and they figure - or they will ask you for a number of measurements)

Bought from maker round corner from me. Yate - Bristol England
https://www.buzzweld.co.uk/resin-lacquer-ultra-gloss-lacquer-glass-flake.html
They make up to order, so not been sat on shelf for years. 2K but when activated lasts couple of days before going off in can, so you don't need to do everything in one go  :)
Oddly can't find petrol resistant claim on web site but I've had no problems and used on paint work of tank & panels of 2 bikes myself and one of my lads. Actually goes long way and got couple of coats out of each can.

Halfords in the UK do a petrol resistant lacquer that i have used , it needs a couple of weeks drying before it is at its best and they say is not100% petrol proof but wipe it off quick if you have any spills

The rear wheel of my RD250C (WG model) is offset to the right. If the wheel is laced with the hub and rim perfectly in line then the tyre touches the chain guard - I know this for a fact ;D ;D It's not a great pic but you can see this in the attachment. I managed to borrow a standard wheel to copy and after a little tweaking mine is now sorted :)

I have just rebuilt both wheels on my Honda CB200 and both wheels on my Suzuki GT185. The spokes are the same length, inner and outer, but the bends are different. I haven't noticed an offset. I measure the gap between the rim and a flat surface, the rebuild so the gap is the same.
