Incorrect Vin Number recorded on V5
« on: June 26, 2020, 12:06:58 PM »
I was checking through my documents today and realised that the V5 has the Vin as starting with S21- Instead of 521-
I've checked back and the majority of MOT's have the correct 521 but some note as S21.
The bike is on historic status and i'm concerned if I contact the DVLA about correcting the Vin they will mess around with either the license plate or historic status.
To me its obviously a typo, but I'm concerned I could end up opening a can of worms.
Any advice from those that have experience.

Current V5 was issued in 2017 when tax status changed to Historic, but previous V5 issued in 2012 shows the same typo.

I probably would do the same.
However, my main concern would be the hassle involved should I want to sell the bike in the future

I might just leave it for the time being. I'm unlikely to sell it in the near future. To me its obvious that's someone mistook a 5 for an S, but from what I've read logic and the DVLA is sometimes not compatible.

DVLA are in a right mess at the mo so defo not the time to try sort it out but I don’t think it will be too problematic.
I’ve had similar with my 522s/521s because Originally they didn’t have 521/522 on the vin at all and pre computer it’s quite common to find the VIN for these bikes as just the four digits as in most cases they all start 521-00
When was yours first registered uk?

Its an original UK bike, so first registered in 1975.

I'm thinking the same.
I'm pretty sure I noted this when I bought the bike as I have a vehicle check which stated "VIN number does not match records" and i seem to remember checking the VIN and realised it was a typo on the DVLA record as the Model number being 521 could not have every been S21, and the frame and engine numbers match so I know its genuine, so i chose to ignore it. Only now am i thinking it may be an issue if i come to sell it.
