Satin black paint for exhausts
« on: May 18, 2020, 08:05:46 PM »
I want to spray the exhaust on my AT3 (DT125) twinshock trial bike.

The current original finish is a satin black, fairly glossy.

Now PJ1 has changed formula, what is the best available heat resistant satin black spray paint?

Thanks chaps.....

I've use Plastikote bbq in the past with good results, although again someone said they have changed the formulae a bit, so look for old stock if you can.

I used this when I resprayed my expansion chambers - more of a sheen than a shine:

Have they changed it to more of a matt finish out of interest?
Just sprayed some engine casings with PJ1 and didn't it used to be the nearest to the standard finish, because it definitely looks more matt than satin to me?

new pj1 is total crap. if you can find cans marked in ounces at markets, grab em.
its because it was deemed carsonogenic, well isn't everything if you snort it too much ffs.
my tip is lidl baufix high temperature satin black. you will have to wait for it to appear. very nice paint to work with, german, high density and resists pretty much everything. this is the matt black version...

The swivel lid plasti-kote BBQ paint has changed and now comes out very matt and kind of dark grey. A very nice finish but not for RD's

Very nice job that, Barnett!

I would like to second Jeff's (Tailchaser) recommendation above.
Bought some to spray engine casings on his recommendation and like it a lot - very much how PJ1 used to be.
Too many HT paints saying they are satin black turn out to be more of a matt dark grey and totally unsuitable.
This one, however, looks very good and how it should be....SATIN BLACK.
