Hello !
« on: January 29, 2020, 04:35:28 PM »
Hi everyone, I have just paid for a 1972 ycs5e, should get it in the next couple of weeks, very non standard and has ( I think) an rd200 motor. The plan is to use it for sprint and hillclimbing events in the local area.  I have had a 350b, rd400 and a 250dx in the distant past, about 40 years ago ! And also have various other French,Italian and Indian motorcycles, all that are ridden often. When the bike arrived i am sure I will have stupid questions !

Welcome to the Forum. I hope you enjoy your new purchase. Photographs are always very welcome. If you have a stupid question, ask away, it is very likely to have been asked before so hopefully someone knows the answer

Just shout if you need anything!

Lots of manuals in the Tech area, including Yamaha model codes if you need to id the engine (Yamaha matched their engine and frame numbers back then).

Have a read up on the 200 range to see where your bike fits.

Don't panic if your frame says CS3 not CS5. Its explained in the link above ;)

Thanks, just seen a copy of the bikes dating certificate, it has a 1973 RD engine (397) and cs3 frame.

So bike and v5 in my garage waiting for me today when I got back from hols. As described in advert, ycs5e with rd200 motor, a quick look over and checked its vitals, needs new air filter and probably has stuck floats cos petrol all over the floor. But sound's great. :-)
