1E7-14371-00 RD125DX Choke Plunger
« on: January 15, 2020, 12:56:46 AM »
I'm not entirely convinced the choke plunger on my carburettor is sealing correctly.

I've had a look at most of the favourite places, and it would seem that NOS plungers are like hen's teeth to get hold of.

Has anyone had any luck refurbishing an old one - ie. by replacing the bottom washer material?

I may or may not be able to help, it depends on the part numbers and what they mean. Your part number begins with 1E7 but earlier models begin with 396. The rest of the number is the same. I have a carb from a Yamaha GT80, and the plunger number is, 3671437100. So, is this the same part? Maybe someone else could help here. If it is, then I can let you have the part to see if it fixes your problem.

Don't know if this will help, but going by Tractorman post I did a quick search and found this

scroll down to number 25

https://jandjcycle.com/Parts-Finder/yamaha/motorcycles/1981/dt80h/carburetor-dt80h-j/00000000-0000-0000-0000-039308531981

and this

https://www.cmsnl.com/products/starter-set_29j1410a00/#.Xh8E0siTLIU

so a new part number for that, maybe a new part number for your bike.

I don't think that's my carburettor.

That is the same part as my GT80. TK Carb. The plunger measures 3.5cm from top to bottom and the plunger part is 3/4cm long and about 1/2cm wide.

Have you been able to take it apart? They can stick and just need a little WD40 to free up.

When the starter jet plunger is in its normal down position, off, it cuts off the starter jet air route. The rubber on the end seals the starter jet fuel outlet.

With no air to create a depression, there is no pull on the fuel through the jet, so the rubber seal does not have too much sealing to do. All the spare ones I have for VM17 carbs have a rock hard rubber insert.

I think it would be possible to pick out the rubber seal and press a new one in........

Just my thoughts.............

My choke plunger seems to move ok but I think its more a case of not totally sealing.
I will try taking it out at the weekend. Im guessing modern fuel has probably hardened the seal.
