Rd200 early forks replating
« on: October 08, 2018, 12:49:12 PM »

Anyone know if you have to remove this circlip (about 2/3rd  down the tube) when you send fork tubes for re-plating (hard chrome)  ? It seems next to impossible

I left mine on, because that's what they said in Classic Motorcycle Mechanics. Sent to Philpots expecting a long wait and they were done in 2 weeks. Used there pick up and delivery service.

Apparently you dont have to, didnt know that so removed it anyway. yes bit awkward, pick it out of grove at ends and manouver each end onto a scrap feeler gauge blade, slide up tube. If you dont protect tube it will scratch as spring ring has very sharp ends!

Thanks for the tips guys .  Left them on Brooks suspension are doing them. They said they would sort them out . Anyone used Brooks before ? I was a confirmed Philpots man,  but they have put up their prices massively in the last eighteen months.

You might be lucky, mine came back in two weeks. Expensive, but well worth it in the long run.

blimey price has gone up a bit, but worth it, they did a magnificent job on mine a while ago.

Brooks are excellent but I wouldn't use them just for a stanction rechrome job personally.
