Vehicle Search - Start Point

If you have come here to ask the question about that old RD then try visiting.

http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk

Then click on the "vehicle Enquiry" sign Post.....Then click "next". It will take you to a screen where you can enter the vehicle reg. You will find out some basic facts.

Like this......

The enquiry is complete

The vehicle details for MEU ***P are:

Date of Liability  01 08 2006

Date of First Registration  21 08 2003

Date of Last V5 Issue  05 08 2004

Year of Manufacture  1976

Cylinder Capacity (cc)  398CC  CO2 Emissions  0g/Km  Fuel Type  Petrol

Export Marker  Not Applicable

Vehicle Status  SORN Not Due

Vehicle Colour  RED

Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle     6 Months Rate  ?0.00  12 Months Rate  ?30.00

Date of liability is when the vehicles next Road Tax is (or was) due.

The above is for my 400 which I first registered in 2003. The date of the last V5 will refer to the new style V5"s issued in the last couple of years. If one has been issued then the bike is still about in some form, on or off the road. All vehicles should now have a new style V5. If a new style V5 has not been issued in 2004/2005 then I am afraid the vehicle has been scrapped or a rustin heap lost in a shed.

Tracing your old vehicle the DVLA way..........

They do a V888 form .....see links below

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DG_10016794

The form....

New search will get you this.......

My bike is a canadian import that I registered with DVLA in 2003. I got an 1976 age related plate.

Other searches will show when it was last taxed - which means its off road and could be anywhere even scrapped.

This is the search result bearing bad news - vehicle has probably been scrapped and the DVLA were informed and deleted records of it

As far as I know the DVLA will only recognise number plates.

You can't get a reg that links to a frame thru them. If you were to try and register a frame with a new number they soon pick up the frame number came from another bike and get a bit shitty.

I think it can be done tru a HPI vehicle check though

The dating officer on here Paul Dawkins can do a vin check for you, cost a fiver but will tell you if your vin or any of the likely derivatives is on DVLA.
If not you will need to register from fresh but in that case its a bit tricky these days due to the NOVA rules.
Rev 'em till they rattle
