Today on X5
« on: July 08, 2018, 05:50:09 PM »
Wow what a machine! first good ride on the X5 and its as quick as my old RD250 to 70 mph
120 miles today stopped at the local on the way home, but on the way it started playing up? cut out
3 miles from home didn't fancy pushing it so had a smoke and it started again, got home and found the
inline filter i'd fitted had done the job, new filter on the left

:D   if you want them for performance "don't buy Micron or Allspeeds" they don't have tuned front pipes and offer no real benefits apart from the sound, although if you don't want performance then they do come up on ebay sometimes, BTW SB200 ones are also different state of tune "so avoid those"  If you do want performance I can tell you the name of someone that will make you some hydro formed ones that will increase performance dramatically , although he is in Devon I think, Martin77, if he has not made some before then he will need your bike to make them fit correctly, and lots cheaper than you would think too, less than some second hand dented rusty old Microns or Allspeeds.

will keep that in mind thanks
Gona cut the down pipes down where they go in to the silencer ! did that on my RD200 last year and it made a HUGE difference to the performance
Only got the X5 for my old man to ride when he comes over, there's a post somewhere but cant find it now,but it is a cool quick bike though
i remember back in the day a mate up the rd had one and everybody took the mick but this X5 is way quicker than the RD200

You may have had German down pipes on the RD that are restricted, and way to de-restrict is to cut the pipe down so only about 1inch goes into the exhaust.

Please let me know how you get on cutting down the down pipe.

I like those X5s. Can you not modify some RD200 pipes to fit?

RD pipes are much smaller diameter, 5mm smaller, 32mm for RD 37mm for GT

I love my X5 but they are not an engine that responds well to tuning. There isn't much scope for porting due to the one piece cylinder block. Also the big ends are a weak point even on a stock engine. You can get them to run on pod filters reasonably well though which eases the breathing slightly at the expense of a few BHP in the midrange.
Yes I am this abrupt in real life but I don't lie or talk sh*t so live with it.
