Do I need an MoT
« on: January 03, 2018, 04:43:56 PM »
I have an import with the NOVA paperwork, a dating letter, and a V55 form.

Currently I need an MoT on the frame number to support my registration application.

If I wait till May 2018, the bike is MoT exempt.

Do I still need an MoT to prove anything else, like frame and engine number and roadworthiness?

that's a good question I think we'll have to wait and see but my thinking is that you'll be ok and you won't need an MOT.

This should be no different to the same situation currently with a pre 1960 bike as they are already mot exempt so dvla should know the answer.

Well thats the thing. It will be a first reg. in this country.Manufactured 1968. I expect VJMC can confirm so expect no probs on that.  Unless DVLA accept dating letter as proof of numbers, as well as they will for age, or if they will require other solid proof thereof? I think if I call them now, rather than wait 'til may or later, when they have dealt with some,  I might get an indescisive answer- but if I find time to waste, I'll call! :-*

I have a 1960 bike that just missed out on the exemption. The tax is due by the end of the month and the M.O.T runs out today. I am going to S.O.R.N it as I need to do a couple of small jobs before the MOT.  If I S.O.R.N it  until May will I still be able to tax it using the original tax reminder (where it says the bike needs a current MOT) but without an MOT?

NO, you will need to tax it using the V5 document reference number...

I have just registered a ‘76 US import, sent off  V55/5, nova certificate, US title, copy of driving licence and cheque for £55. I didn’t insure or MoT it and the V5C came back today less than 2 weeks after sending it off. Declared as historic vehicle on V5 with arbetory date of first registration of 1st Jan 76, UK 1st registration Jun 18.
Hope this helps.

Excellent. I will do the same, saving on an MoT fee.

Will then have three historics taxed and mot'd in the stable then. Just the pesky KH400 not playing......
