Found after 15 years of searching
« on: June 22, 2017, 05:40:08 PM »
Some great news to report.
I have a 400F which is in the advanced process of being put back together (with the help of others known in this manor ).
Anyway I went looking for the original owner.
I found him today.
I'd been meaning to make the call for a few weeks but I wasn't sure I had the right guy so put it off and off. I rang his work, he wasn't in his office and has a day off tomorrow ( important to note ;)  ). I left a message. They forwarded it to him.

He called me ... he's been looking for it for 15 years, not only that but he rode it for the first time exactly 36 years ago tomorrow. His 17th birthday  :o :o

I guess there is a 1/365 chance of the dates coinciding but you can't help feeling that we get connected to these things in more ways than we really understand. Well it would be nice to think that !

Defo a story for Wellard once the bikes back on the road and MOTed .

What a great story, and how cool was he - A new 400F on your 17th birthday! Wonder if he took his test on the day as well? or maybe put 250 stickers and L plates on it!

Took his test on the same day....his mates had had 250s for several months....
Within a year bike had been heavily modified  micron small can pipes, airbox ditched, porting , twin discs , shocks, cut seat and rear guard.... gold wheels, rear sets...you get the picture!

Like we all did...all that now rare and unobtanium stuff, ditched !!!

I thought I'd done OK passing my test about a month after my 17th birthday but passing on the day, excellent!   I do recall getting pulled by the plod a few weeks after I'd passed on my RD200 for riding with no 'L' plates and a having a pillion passenger.   The poor PC was somewhat crestfallen when I showed him my licence which had just returned from Swansea.  :D
I've always had at least one road bike around the place since my first RD200B in 1975.  I'm now RDless,  at least for the time being, currently residing in the garage, an Aprilia Tuono V4 and a 1979 Honda CB550
