I have reapplied with a letter from DK enclosed stating this bike (frame/eng number) had no title documents. They were very helpful, sending the letter immediately by post and email.  They said the DVLA is doing this a lot recently.

Maybe people are trying to register stolen bikes and the just need proof of the source of the bike?

Fingers crossed.

I also requested a two digit number............
Electronic Test Engineer (Avionics), Age 60, Owned P50, PC50, SS50z, YAS1, YDS7, RD350B till 1978, then KH400 from 2009 onwards. Have a fully restored YAS1 on the road, and an AT3 import to MoT. And now a Suzuki T125 Stinger to get fired up.

You don’t need an mot if bike is over 40 years old, I filled in V55, sent NOVA, original US title, copy of driving license, bill of sale, cheque for £55 first registration fee. V5 came back in less than 2 weeks, age related reg and historic class showing taxed for 12 months.
excellent job.

just filling mine out and on Q2..do i put motorcycle or Historic [over 40years old].
also ..Q4...do i leave tax fee blank,
thanks guys.

From page 1 of this post, in 2011......

Box 2 Taxation Class. If your machine was manufactured pre 1/1/1977 write historic vehicle. If not write motorcycle (This includes motor tricycles under 450kg).

good luck with the 2-digit request martin1957

Of my 4 original UK machines 3 of them had 2-digit registrations. I think, pro-rata, this is more common on bikes than cars as each dealer would sell smaller amounts.

eg If dealer sells 468 cars of particular number letter sequence (in a year) only 99 of them can have less than 3 digits but if he only sells 125 bikes most of them will be less than 3 digits.

you could have got really bold and asked for a 1 digit plate  ;)

Just got my V5C witne my registration number. Its a three digit number so the request for a two digit number didnt work.

Never nind. All sorted. Get the plate made now.

MOT not required for 40 year old import bikes.

Great news martin1957  :)

Wonder what made them yield, considering your initial application seemed to tick all the boxes  :-\

Well done Alvin.  It's great when it all goes to plan and you finally get your V5, especially if you've had a couple of hiccups along the way. I've been using my bike all the time now it's registered and road legal.
