All new registrations now need a NOVA no matter what.
Even of your bike don't ne a NOVA DVLA will not register it unless HMRC say so with a NOVA number.
So from now on don't even bother send the V55/5 to DVLA without a NOVA. You can still register your bike with a NOVA and say its a un-registered UK bike and HMRC will issue you a number.

Hi paul, would there be a time limit on a nova, just got, a mk1 garelli tiger, (with pedals) from France . Could take a year before i got it ready for mot

Yes mate
14 days from when its imported then its a £5 per day fine.
What ever you do, do not MOT the bike before you get a NOVA.....

That's correct Scott but I am not sure if you will get away with a copy of your driving licence. I think you may need the original but I am not 100% sure.
Advice form now says copy of licence.
I'm not as fast as I thought I used to be

I recently requested a form (maybe it was an old one...) but copied and sent off my forms along with my licence (seems a bit mad  :o) anyways in less than a week a registration number was issued and the V5 arrived! It was 4 weeks last time I did one.

It does make sense not to send off a copy though, I am glad that it has changed  ;)

Cheers,

Following the advice on this thread Ive just successfully registered a 1976 bike.
Many thanks!

I sent off all the relevant forms and payment on the Friday.
And got my new Reg and V5C in the post on the following Friday!!  :)
Amazing!

Seems that maybe the DVLA are getting their act together at last!

Put "Exempt by age", type approval came in around 2003
