Title: RDs at the TT??
Post by: Rd250lew on May 25, 2016, 08:33:52 PM
Anyone heading over to the TT?

I'm heading over for race week, probably camping at Ballacottier campsite near Douglas. If anyone's going let me know it would be good to meet up for a pint and put some faces to names  ;)

I will be going on my newly rebuilt 250D! never thought I would have it ready on time but there you go  :D couldn't have done it without the help and advice from you guys on here.
Cheers Lew

Hello Lew.
My 400 staying home this TT as I'm going over with my TDR.
Congratulations on completing your RD. Blue or silver?
I had a blue one in 77. I have also stayed at Ballacotier.
Years ago. Odd but quiet.
Have a good & safe TT.
Sean.

Remember to get a few photos of your adventures and do a few details to go in wellard.

I still hold the club lap record for a lap of the TT mountain course from pit lane to pit lane.

Thanks Sean, mine is yellow. I've been at Ballacottier before too and swore I'd never go back! But the deal was this year I arranged the ferry and my mate arranged the camp site but he left it so late that was all that was left. I might find something else when I get there!  :D

I will look out for your TDR, what colour is it?
Cheers Lew

Will do Del, I will take some snaps but I doubt my 250 will beat yr record but you never know, I'm toying with going into the Ramsey sprint but I've not yet mastered a quick start on the RD so might get a wooden spoon for slowest in class!  ;D (I've never had a 2 stroke before - I'll be putting it down to that ;)  )

I'm still nursing her around under 7000 or so revs after the rebuild but so far so good, I going to take a run to Portree tomorrow to get some more miles on her before I head off to IOM on Friday  :D
Cheers Lew

Good lap time there Del was that with closed roads or fighting the traffic looks like day time used to prefer it up on the mountain at dusk time getting my arse kicked by all the Northern Irish plates fair play to them!!!!

Looks like you've taken the don't snap the chain approach over the bride, or is that because your carrying a bit more weight now :D

If anyone who is into bikes who hasn't been get it on your bucket list, been 10 times and the best was David Jefferies (loved him) parade lap and the centenary year for all the past winners all on old bikes wheeling past the Sulby Pub!

Cheers Jim.

My time works out at an average of 39mph on the Friday before the senior.
I left it a bit late to do a proper timed lap

Traffic, traffic lights all slowing me down. Had to stop the stop watch at the start of the mountain because it shut after another accident.

I did not really try to go fast - just wanted to do a steady lap so I can say I have a time for doing a lap

We used to tag on the back of the last traveling martial, when the roads are closed for racing and practice they are VERRY fast and safe, after being told by one of them it's fine and best of luck trying to keep up, that is the best way to experience the track safely and trying to keep up with them was impossible and show you good lines too.

But all I see now is road closed here and there because of idiots especially the mountain  >:(

Looks like you had good weather too, sunshine at iom is brilliant. When it happens!

Enjoy boys jealous!!

When we went it was the best weather for TT week since 1976, I was with Del that week and we never had a single drop of rain, just perfect sunshine all week. I was hot and lovely. A trip I will always remember.

I remember that year Paul cracking weather all practice & race week, but crashed 1st lap at the bungalow, so no bike and in and out of Nobles for 2 days and no bike either trouble is that tested my  patience which did last because of sunbathing and watching from miltown by the trading estate, that weather too 2006 off the top of my head?

Cracking job  on my wrist tho, still good now ;)

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for good weather it makes such a difference, I went to the classic last year and the weather was superb even the wife enjoyed it!  :D

When we were wandering around the pits at one point,  I think it was the day before the big parade lap where they let some of the big riders loose on the Nortons, I saw one of the Kwak teams start up two h750 triples at the same time.... the smell & noise was incredible..... it was at that point I decided to get a stroker! Happy days  :D

Credit where it's due, weren't many people come past me when I used to get a shift on but Northern Irish plates and people doing some unofficial practice / set up on race bikes! That could only happen at the IOM that's why I love it so much!!  ;)f

Have seen  lots of video clips of Joey and Robert and others doing the same thing in NI many years ago anyone see this happening?

back from the TT, had a fantastic time.. I loved every single minute. The icing on the cake was both the amazing weather, and good friend Dan Hegarty came 11th in the senior and winning the privateers

It was common practice here, I (and a few others) used to set our race bikes up in the local industrial estate...... It had a link road that ran right around it and one part had a half mile straight, perfect for plug chops..... :D

What a trip, had a great time IOM is some place at TT week, it's got to be a must for anyone into bikes. But the icing on the cake for me was my rebuilt RD didn't miss a beat, even on the all night run in the pouring rain from Liverpool ferry to Beauly, must have done about 1000 miles on the trip quite a few of them in the power band ;-)
