Back end of last month(May 2017),  I started on repairs and strengthening of a seat base I got off Dave James, Thanks Dave. It had got the usual fracture at the sides and a couple of other splits in the base area which have previously been welded. Pictures after I shotblasted and put through My rust treatment stuff.

74123-1

74125-2

74127-3

I got busy with the grinder and had My 1st go at brazing the original fractures and splits. Then cut out a plate to attempt strengthening the sloped area as I plan to fit the German/Belgian grab rail, again a purchase off Dave James( gets everywhere don't he ::) ::) ) to stop the missus flying off the back when I get a bit racy. I did have an original rack fitted, but now I've had the chrome work done, I don't want My indicators scuffed by the rack as they were actually being bent upwards when it was on. I know I'm veering off the straight and narrow, but we're both getting older and she can't hold on like she used to :( :(

74129-4

74131-5

74133-6

I tried My best to avoid brazing over the Tang area so it wouldn't interfere with fitting the cover later on.

74135-7

Starting the other side, same process

74137-8

After brazing the lower edge, I cut down the sheet to enable Me to heat and bend the top over onto the base, thus it will give the strength for Grab rail once installed. As We all know they're all getting long in the tooth now.

74139-9

Blew a couple or three holes through when brazing, so went about repairing those next, Ooops  :-[ :-[

74141-10

74143-11

What a Mess, but strong as an Ox :) :)

74145-12

After a long Fag n Tea break letting it all cool down, I got busy with the grinder again ::) ::)

Job looks a good 'in.
Pity all your work will be hidden behind the cover  :-\

Know what You mean Motty!!
Back from the powder coaters. It's a good job the top's being covered up, doesn't look that good. Poor job grinding off the excess brazing :'( :'(

74157-0

74159-1

Forgot to mention earlier that a couple of the tangs were missing/ broken off so with My new brazing skill ::) ::) I made and attached new 1's.
Out in the Sun, Yes, Sun gave it a coat of that new sunscreen stuff-ACF50 :P :P

74161-2

74163-3

Wiped off excess ACF50 ready to fit N glue edge piping on

74165-4

74167-5

74169-6

74171-7

If You can see a piece of the piping was damaged too much to use, so I cut it out and got a piece of used 2 stroke pipe from pump to carbs, cut it to length then split it down the length, cleaned out with some meth's and stuck that on with superglue. Improvisation  ;) ;) ;)

You can use Electrical grommet strip for the edging if you aren't happy with the tubing, its a more rigid plastic and wont be cut by any pressure on the edge

Went to see Phil Turner, P&K Classic bikes and got a new foam

74215-0

Sat it on base

74217-1

I'd had the cover out in the Sun, Yes Sun for a couple of hours to make it more supple to fit.

74219-2

Joy, came out to give Me the extra pair of hands needed

74221-3

74223-4

74225-5

We thought we'd got it wrong, but it's the misalignment in the pattern between the front and rear area's . Too late to do anything about it now as I've had it over a year :'( :'( :'(

74227-6

Fitted the hardware underneath and then noticed that the spring is missing off the catch plate, it must have been missing when I stripped it down. I'll find a solution to that in the future. Some bolts missing from having them Zinced so the brackets are fitted using Stainless steel 1's for now.

74229-7

Tail cowling next

74231-8

74233-9

74235-10

I didn't want to bore You with the problems fitting the side strips, so no pictures. I struggled to get them to fit, then realised that 1- where I've added the strengthening plates, it's now thicker and 2- the new foam overhangs the side of the base all along both sides. I ended up trimming the foam off the side of the base to allow enough movement to let the side strips slip in behind the tail cowl. Got there in the end ::) ::) ::)

74237-11

74239-12

74241-13

Even looks level with the Tail light, Bonus :D :D

74243-14

Great job fitting the seat cover Comms, whole resto looks great.
I'm always passing through/past Walsall, only thirty minutes away from me. I'll have to call by for a look and a natter next time I'm in the area....... ;) ;) ;) ;)
