Restorations Diary / Re: RD 50 with a twist

Thanks matey. I love the way she looks. Tiny but with a huge wheelbase lol!

Had an hour in total today and did this. Made up some little rubber washers for the tank...

then realised they were way to big and mounted in the wrong place...sorted that...

then found a bracket that will do for the mo, I needed to get the tank and seat bang on level...I can make a template later and get one fabricated

Nope

spot on!

Yamaha changed the oiling for the B to less oil. The 400C was a light oiler, then they made the E/F and oiling was increased again. Go figure!!

As my 350 won't be on the road and running anytime soon I'm considering poaching the top end off it and fitting it to my 250E. Interesting about the 350A being a heavy oiler, I was just going to swap the pump over and use it. As it is fitted to the 350 by Yamaha does it matter if it's a heavy oiler? Excuse my ignorance but I like to understand how things fit and work together....... ::)

Thanks fellas, some good ideas there.
I have looked at liquid rubber for dipping too, not economical though as I can't seem to find it in small quantities (and black in colour). Heat shrink tube seems to be the way to go if I loose the rubber during blasting and painting.
Cheers,

I have a 55 tooth gear. Just swap them over. The wormshaft is still available from Yamaha.

You were lucky! Over shimming will increase oiling up the rev range, but the total output will be the same. 350lc's frequently have 250 pumps fitted. They survive, but it's not the way to go.

Thanks arrow what are your thoughts on just going with the 250 pump and overshimming it ?
I did this many yrs ago with no ill effects so was surprised to read the change on project x but guess its best practice

350A's are heavy oilers, but if you are using the 250 primaries this will help. In any case  you can fine tune the minimum stroke and pulley settings to suit.
Personally I would use either a 40 tooth gear pump or a 55 tooth. Both were used on different 400's.
